Keep Görli open at night!

Keep Görli open at night!

After the gang rape at the end of June, the demands of the Law & Order factions to fight “crime” in Görli are overflowing.

We need to emphasize: every case of patriarchal and sexualized violence is one too many!

Patriarchal and sexualized violence is a problem. Women often do not feel safe in parks at night. This violence exists in our society regardless of origin or skin color. Women are not protected by more police officers, but by fighting these social conditions.

In Görli, it has long since ceased to be about rape: Women and their experiences of violence are instrumentalized for racist law & order campaigns.

Yes, there are problems like drug use, drug dealing and impoverishment in the neighborhood. But this is not about women and security but about racist displacement, repressive migration policies and gentrification (#Musterpark).

Now turnstiles and cameras at the entrances are demanded and at night the park should be closed.

But in this way, none of the problems in the neighborhood will be addressed, let alone solved, and there will be further displacement of the problems to the residential areas around Görli, especially at night. And we will be deprived of another public space.

This will not work!

We as residents demand that Görli stays open at night and that

  • drug users are given access to appropriate help (especially drop-in centers, sleeping places and consumption rooms)!
  • People without work permits should be given a perspective and legal employment opportunities!
  • Women’s shelters, outpatient clinics for the prevention of violence and violence-prevention projects should be further expanded and provided with the appropriate financial resources!

Populist actionism is useless, financial resources should be used sensibly and purposefully!

Sleeping places instead of cameras!

24/7 consumption rooms instead of turnstiles!

Work permits instead of fences!

Social solutions for social problems!

… and to all cis-men: reflect your masculinity and rethink your behavior!
