Am vergangenen Sonntag (21. August 2022) kam es im #Wrangelkiez gegen 18 Uhr zu einem krassen Polizeiübergriff: Ein Schwarzer Mann wurde von der Polizei kontrolliert. Er verweigerte das Anlegen von Handschellen aufgrund einer schweren Handverletzung, woraufhin er mit Gewalt zu Boden gebracht wurde: Die Hände auf dem Rücken, ein Knie im Nacken, ein Knie auf den Beinen.Er schrie vor Schmerzen, woraufhin mehrere Passant*innen das Vorgehen der Polizei lautstark kritisierten.Die Polizisten verloren die Nerven: Einer zog seine Dienstwaffe, ein weiterer seinen Taser. Anwesende Passant*innen und Nachbar*innen deeskalierten die Situation.
Die kontrollierte Person schrie weiter vor Schmerzen und verlor schließlich das Bewusstsein, ein Rettungswagen brachte ihn in eine Klinik.
Der Übergriff zeigt, wie polizeiliches Handeln mit Gewalt und Rassismus verknüpft ist. Er zeigt auch die leichtfertige Bereitschaft von Polizist*innen, potenziell tödliche Waffen einzusetzen, obwohl zu keinem Zeitpunkt eine Gefahr bestand!
Leider ist das kein Einzelfall, auch nicht im Wrangelkiez.
Wir haben die von der von der Polizei Anfang August getöteten Menschen in Frankfurt, Köln, Recklinghausen und Dortmund noch im Gedächtnis!
Zu dem Betroffenen besteht Kontakt: Er konnte das Krankenhaus wieder verlassen, ihm geht es den Umständen entsprechend. Eine Anzeige o. Ä. hat er nicht erhalten.
… und an die „Jaaberihrkenntdievorgeschichtenicht-Fraktion“: Die Vorgeschichte ist egal!
Es kann und darf nicht sein, dass Polizeieinsätze vor allem für People of Colour und Schwarze Menschen immer wieder zu lebensbedrohlichen Situationen führen!
Es kann und darf nicht sein, dass überforderte Polizisten solche Banalitäten eskalieren und zu einer tödlichen Bedrohung für Betroffene, Umstehende und Anwohner*innen werden!

Last Sunday (21.08.22) , at around 18:00 in Wrangelkiez, a blatant police assault occurred: a black man was controlled by the police. He refused to be put into handcuffs because of a severe hand injury, which lead to him being violently thrown to the ground – hands on his back, one knee on his neck, one knee on his legs.
He cried out in pain, which lead to multiple passers-by vocally criticising the police’s procedure.
The police lost their temper – one pulled out his service weapon, another his taser. The passers-by and neighbours present deescalated the situation.
The person being controlled cried out again from pain and finally lost consciousness. An ambulance took him to hospital.
This assault demonstrates how the actions of the police are linked to violence and racism. It also shows how carelessly police are willing to use potentially deadly weapons, even though there was no risk of danger at any point.
Unfortunately, this is not a one-off case, not even in Wrangelkiez.
We also remember those killed by the police in Frankfurt, Cologne, Recklinghausen and Dortmund at the start of August.
We were able to contact the person concerned – he was able to leave the hospital, and is doing well considering the circumstances. He has not received any charges or similar.
… and to those who say “Yes but you don’t know the whole story” – the whole story is irrelevant! The police cannot and should not be allowed to continually put Black people and people of colour in life-threatening situations!
Overburdened police officers cannot and should not be allowed to escalate otherwise mundane incidents and become a deadly threat to those affected, to bystanders, or to residents!
